Common sports injuries we see

As a sports-loving nation, it may come as no surprise that over 62,000 Australians were hospitalised due to sports injuries in 2023-24. Not every sports injury leads to hospitalisation, however, and many people don't report less serious injuries, so they may be even more common than we realise.

Your tailored treatment plan

Whether through physiotherapy services, chiropractic care, osteopathy or a combination of treatment options, you deserve sports injury treatment options tailored to you. Every injury, much like every person, is different, so we take the time to learn about your pain, what you've tried so far and if you're concerned about future injuries.

Depending on your needs and goals, your tailored treatment plan may include:

Answering your sports injury treatment questions

Sports injuries are any injury you get through playing sports, including individual physical activity like walking. There are two types: acute (sudden) and chronic (long-term). Acute injuries tend to cause sudden pain, for example a sprained ankle, while chronic conditions cause long-lasting chronic pain.

Most of the time, our preferred way to deal with injuries is to attempt to prevent them in the first place. While this isn’t always possible, you may be able to reduce your risk of injury through injury education.

This will be tailored to the sport you play (for example, targeting ankle stability for people who play netball), but tends to focus on movement correction so you may be less likely to injure your most injury-prone area.

If you play soccer or basketball, we also have pre-season training manuals . To see those, please visit our resources section.

Absolutely. As long as you have the go-ahead from your doctor, we aim to provide the most appropriate form of sports physiotherapy for you, including post-surgery rehabilitation. We’ll work with you to understand your injury and surgery and aim to relieve pain to help you get back on the field.

Sometimes there’s an answer that’s easy to spot, like your hand hit the ball in an unexpected way, or you didn’t warm up enough before starting your workout.

You also may be more likely to get a certain injury if you have something like muscle tension, muscle weakness, unstable joints or a past injury in the same area. This is why we get to know you and the life you lead, so we can tailor treatment and things like home exercises to you.
